  • Like the throw of a dice, will it be just by chance you open this puzzle box?  Probably not. There is an amazing mechanism to fully understand before you can say you’ve really solved this puzzle.

Akio Kamei first designed the Dice puzzle box in October of 1997 and puzzlers have been enjoying it ever since. Mr Kamei wanted to make puzzle boxes that were different from the traditional Japanese secret box so you have to be mindful when solving this one. The lid is never actually removed.

The puzzle is still being handmade in limited quantities at his Karakuri Creation workshop in Japan from Walnut and Maple. Some small changes have been made to parts of the puzzle box over the years but Kamei has not varied the original ingenious mechanism.

Mr Kamei worked for the Yamanaka Wooden Puzzle company from 1972 before branching out to establish Karakuri Yasubei and start creating original trick boxes in 1981. In 2011 he was inaugurated as chairman of Karakuri Creation Group. He’s always thinking about how he can outwit people with his puzzles. He says “I like to think of situations where minds are flooded with creative ways to solve the problem.”

Size outside: 80mm x 80mm x 80mm   Size inside: 35mm x 50mm x 56mm But the opening is restricted when you solve it so it’s only 45mm x 56mm

The puzzle box comes in a pressboard gift box and a solution is provided.
